I never thought ArenaNet would stoop so low as to plagarize World of Warcraft's lore...

A direct copy of Warcraft's World Tree, the Night Elves' Immortality, and the Emerald Dream (seriously, "Dream of Dreams," what the heck?)

GW2 appears to be the biggest lorelol I've seen in any video game to date.

Any story with a tree of life and an elf like race is copying Blizzard? WTF.

The concept of elves and magical trees has been around for ages. Blizzard did not invent those ideas. Look at the Genesis creation story, Adam and Eve and the freaking tree. Then look at how many times dwarves, elves, and great trees has come up in stories, books, movies, and other games before WoW. That's like saying WoW has magic and omg they have humans that breathe air. GW is ripping off of wow! Heavens forbid humans!

Zinger go back to WoW. Honestly why do you spend more time than any other Guild Wars player on a forum for a game you don't play

Yes, there was a tremendous earthquake that caused the Mississippi River to reverse its direction. This is vastly different than a crew of reanimated skeletons building a dam and diverting a river backwards.

The only real explanation is that Palawa Joko uncovered hidden Mursaat magicks known only as "plot holes". Conjuring one of these dark, forbidden magicks, he created a plot hole right under the bottom of the River Elon; the river flowed into it and came out right where he needed it instead.

QFT - I was really hoping we'd get the Seers and the Mursaat making some power plays. I'd really like to know where these two alien races came from, but instead the world is threatened by... dragons.

If we want to get technical, I think Tolkien came up with the whole Elf / Tree of Life bit first. And he probably got the idea form some ancient manuscript he read... so, no, neither Warcraft not Guild Wars is the first to think of "Elves" and Trees of Life!

Tree of life: Yggdrasil; norse myth
elves/elbs: Alptraum german word for nightmare, elbs were considered to be bad, but there seems to be a few light elbs; norse myth

And everything I heard about what happens between GWEN and GW2 sucks. Remember the words between Gwen and Pyre in the Epilogue? And then Pyre conquers Ascalon? WFT?

Palwaka (whatever) and Pyre only happens because our characters are written to be the most stupid and naive characters in the world. ANet should get new writers, that are able to create a believable world and the lore surrounding it. Writers that are able to give the characters that people play a brain and common sense. Writers that are able to make forked stories, not one way streets.

And to the person that thinks everything will be ok, because it is ANet. I have lost any faith I ever had in ANet the moment they decided to release a BMP via the online shop, while not having any new payment options for european players, even though they had more than a year time for it.

A question: What good is the HoM now? How can they tie that into the lore they chose for GW2?

My questions are: Does everyone feel like fighting evil dragons, as the pivotal plot point in GW 2? Does everyone love cliché points that seem to feud over into the GW universe, every time they come out with a new product?

One of my biggest gripes has been the storyline in GW that seriously needs to be fixed in some places. Don’t get me wrong I love the international fantasy stuff, but the storyline keeps hitting the wall in the end.

Thanks, Kashrlyyk. As I recall, Tolkien translated Beowulf, so he would be familiar with the Norse source material?

Yes, he had. There is an article about him on wikipedia and on one of the LotR DVDs is a special about him, too. If you have access to that, it is a very nice documentary about him.

From wikipedia: "Middle-earth (derived from an Anglicized form of Old Norse Miðgarðr, the land inhabited by humans in Germanic paganism)"

"Influences

Tolkien was heavily influenced by ancient Germanic literature, indigenous pre-Christian religion (Germanic paganism), linguistics, legend and culture, for which he confessed a great love."

Well at this point I think that most of the “unlocks” you get directly tie into things you could only get in GW 1. What I mean is that since the Luxon’s & Kurzick’s "bit the big one," you get access to their special armor that was saved over by your forebear. So they may be direct copies of what the armor looked like (bit more graphically enhanced), or new armor that can only be crafted at the HoM.

Since most of the world has been destroyed over, this may be your only chance to get things that were truly forgot or gone extinct.

It’s a nice way to market the old trilogy, if this is the case. Lol, it’s funny to think about that; “a storyline centered around a marketing plan.”

We dont even know why the Charr conquered ascalon. For all we know the king exiled the ebon vanguard or had them killed and the charr didnt have an alliance anymore.

Um, actually, we do know that the Titans posed as gods to the Charr, who invaded Ascalon as per their instructions. We also can surmise that the Titans were there under orders from Abaddon, who intended to destroy the northern kingdoms by throwing Charr at them in order to weaken ultimate resistance to the fallen god's return.

So a great deal of people begging Arenanet to restore Ascalon wasn't enough, and they decide to make it even more of a depressing place than it is right now? GG.

To all the people who seem to think that they won't be able to make Canthan characters or use Canthan armor, let me remind you that a bunch of people fled Cantha to Elonia and Tyria, so there's nothing to worry about. I think there has been enough travel between the three continents that by the time GW2 starts, we should be able to make Canthan, Tyrian, or Elonian humans from the start. Will they have an explicit option that says create a Canthan character? I seriously doubt it. But there will no doubt be facial types to match the Canthan look or Elonian look.
